When everything goes wrong

Words of advice from the inexperienced. Wash your negatives thoroughly and DON’T change the type of film you shoot unless you have experience with the new film you plan to use.
I’m a bit disappointed that I traveled thousands of kilometers to meet up with the family (which is hard considering everyone lives in a different state) and manage to destroy all my black and white film in an afternoon.
I shall, from this point, revert to my tried and trusted film stock and developers. Not that there is anything wrong with what I’ve just ruined. Just that I don’t want to have to spend more money learning the in’s and out’s of another stock when the current one already serves me well.

    What happened?!
Feel terrible for suggesting that you try Microfine... i've never had any issues with it at all.
  • Don't feel bad. The issue was not the combination but my lack of experience with the combination.
Until now I have used Kodak which seems to NOT require a great deal of washing to give good results.
This Microfine and Acros combination on the other hand, seems to require a very thorough wash. Something that, based on my prior experience with Kodak films, I failed to do.
Still, as my wife says, I won't be making the same mistake any time soon :-)

My wash routine is the same for all films:

    - 30s water rinse after fix
    - at least 2 minutes in quick wash
    - 10 minutes in running water, dumping the water every minute or so

which makes me want to know what you were doing?
  • Kodak is special :-) - Wash for 3 mins and you're done.Kodak is special :-) - Wash for 3 mins and you're done.

    Yep:

says 5min (after hypo-clear agent, which must be the kodak equivalent of quick wash), or just fill and dump 10 times with water. That's pretty different from things in Fujifilm-land.
  • ouch....damn....
    what combination gave you this?
  • Shame. Doesnt look so bad on the screen tho, kinda like one of those arty textures flickr people love so much ;-0
    Cute kid by the way.
