Anxious look as the storm arrives
Monday, August 17th, 2009The XpanII
Sunday, August 16th, 2009This is another shot taken with Jon’s XpanII camera. The fun thing is that it’s a rangefinder not unlike my Bessa R2a or Brian’s Leica M6 albeit a lot wider and slightly harder to focus. Having said that it makes taking panoramic or wide shots much easier than say the Horizon Perfekt and you tend to get a MUCH nicer, more cinematic feel from the shots than a regular rangefinder (likely the format of the shot and the lack of distortion (horizon problem)). The only downside, and it’s a biggy, is the price. Be sure to pick yours up when you have a few thousand dollars spare

Flickr response

It’s interesting to see how people respond to different photo’s. More often than not (80% of the time?) I find people liking shots I’ve taken that I think are ok but nothing out of this world. This particular shot appeals to me for a number of reasons and was ignored on flickr ![]()
The tones in the shot are hard to achieve in B+W film unless the exposure and circumstances are spot on. The picture was taken using the Contax 645 with the Zeiss Planar 80mm f/2 lens with a special adapter which makes the background just vanish into a smooth blur. I like this photo a great deal and it was interesting to see who fav’d it. Expect more in this series and follow up with a bit of colour too.

Taken with the trusty Voigtlander Bessa R2A. Now had I used canon’s new camera, the 5D mk2 We’d have had an out of focus shot. A wonderfully exposed, out of focus shot mind you.
