Possibly the end
Well, that was fun.
Lots of work. Not a great deal of reward. A lot learned. A few friends made. LOTS of time wasted.
Photography, I need a rest.
Thanks for all the kind words over the several years.
Time to get on with my life.
Bye.

I learned a lot from your pictures but I know your situation too well.
Please take your time and let's stay in contact.

I learnt a hell of a lot from you. Hope that counts? Good luck old boy.

For me, you were perhaps one of the “big” names on flickr. Going to your stream today and finding only one shot was definitely a deep emotional blow.
I can't put into words the influence you had on me, despite the seperation in our styles.
I'm glad it's only possibly….

We live in the same city but we never met. I think we have even some friends in common and I also think that one day I saw you getting out from Shinjuku west exit with a 200mm (maybe), Canon lens and in that moment your flickr avatar came to my mind.
You are one of the best photographers I know and I also learnt a lot from your work.
Thank you for sharing your talent and take care.
Good luck!
Zuco

Hey Kiem, thanks mate. Don't stop learning. I'd be happy if we switched rolls and I learned something from you – sure that's going to happy shortly

Hi Tam, wow, super nice of you to say. Glad I was some kind of inspiration. But don't let me stifle your creative growth. Move on, come back and teach and inspire me. I look forward chatting with you again in the future re pics.
Cheers.

Hi Zuco,
Thanks for the kind words. If we have so much in common we're bound to run into each other. I'm not leaving Japan so give me a shout the next time you think you're going to meet up with a mutual friend and I'll meet up.
Cheers.

The reward is in the image you create and the fun you have doing it. Looks to be plenty of that with you!
A break is always good when you want to refocus.
Keep at it!

Sean, loved your work – it’s a shame to see you go.
Have a good break and hope to see some more of your great work in the future.
PS. Why not leave your shots on Flickr for others to admire during your sabbatical?

Thanks
It will be interesting to see how I feel after my break.
Re the pictures on flickr. I could leave them but most of them a pretty poor quality so I thought I'd take them down rather than embarrass myself any further.:-)

Thanks James. Yeah, lets hope the refocus works

You are very modest!.
IMO the following were fantastic shots (and i wish that i had taken them):
-man on subway with hand in jacket and those fantastic collars
-photo booth x2
-long haired tramp with catch lights
-man reading paper on train platform
Best of luck and keep the faith!

I can only echo what others have said here, as your photographs as a body of work are truly inspirational.
I think every photographer/artist feels the way you do at some point, but this is a good thing because it’s the anticipation of continually learning/getting better that drives you (no matter if you are an amateur or professional in any field). It’s this reason I honestly hope there is never a day I feel content my work.
However you have to enjoy the process along the way and if you are not, simply ask yourself why you are doing it, which is what you have obviously done.
I look forward to seeing more of your work (whenever that may be) because it’s photographers like you that set the bar for others (including myself) to aspire to and learn from.
Thanks and all the best,

I don´t know what´s going on, but I don´t need to know. You´re stream was so good that after a while I didn´t want to have a look that often anymore. It gave me an extensive look into a world I´d like to visit but probably never ever will.
Not sure which whom you compare your images with, but your best can surely stand the test of times.

I hope the break do good for you. Your pictures have been very inspiring, and I can hardly wait to see how it's going to be when you come back.

Even though we've never met, I've learned a lot from your images. Thanks for being an inspiration to me. Good luck with everything, and I hope you come back soon.

You have more admirers than you could possibly know. Thank you for getting me into photography, and thank you for the inspiration. Japan is one of my favorite places in the world and every time I look at your images it brings me back there. Thank you.

Hi GJFlansburg,
Getting you into photography? I hope you don't regret it later in life
I'll eventually return, hopefully inspiring you with a new view of Japan.

I was just wondering why I haven't seen your pictures in such a long time. When I went to your stream I noticed this. You've truly been a great inspiration. I learnt a lot by just seeing your photographs. Thanks & hope you're back sometime soon.

how is the hiatus going? i imagine it is difficult to resist the urge to shoot. i am not sure i could give it all up myself but sometimes i wonder why i devote so much time to this endeavor.
November 8th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
The issue is not resisting the urge to shoot. I've been shooting so much and without thinking. I have lot my way and have no direction. The break is to stop me from wasting time and money and take some time out to think about if and what I should do next.
thanks for asking. Although I fear the ideas I have are much harder to execute.
The hiatus is going well
Time will tell I guess.
