Aokigahara Jukai

So I finally have a few thing's to show from the Aokigahara Jukai trip. Only took the Rolleiflex this time. Well, I took the 5d also but it was the light meter for day 2 and not a good one at that. It seems that my trusty Sekonic did the job just great. These B+W shots are proof. After seeing the results I'm keen to go back again. At the start of the trip it was pouring rain and Jon and I had to walk 20 mins to get to the station at about 6:50am. We hadn't event started and we were soaked. Still, the weather was actually a blessing and I'm really pleased Thomas, with his boundless enthusiasm got us all shooting in the rain in the forest. For me it made for better shots than the sunny day after. Next will be to see what everyone has printed. Thanks guy's. It was a lot of fun. All shot on TMax 100 and developed using Tmax dev 1:4

Grotto. That’s the one! Didn’t see anything like, so it must have been while you were off doing the ‘sean goes sneaking’ interludes ;)

Yup! That would be it :-) That was around the corner from the lake. A bit further up the road.

Thanks Thomas. I wanted to get a few of these up to share before I went away. It’s interesting so see who likes what.
When I return from Australia we should all get together and bring a few shots along that didn’t work also so we can discuss these too :-)

Nice tonality. Did you use some color filter?

  • http://blog.50mm.jp motionid

    Hi Martin,
Didn’t use any colour filters for this shoot. For the Rollei I own a yellow filter and, now I think about it, should have used it at least once to pull the clouds out of the sky a bit more but I forgot.

The forest looks very dense and the root structures seem as if they are clawing at the earth.  What a rugged place.  You’ve captured it well.
